The internationalisation of the Italian renewables industry
in promoting investment in Africa
Key Energy, 7th November 2019
On 7th November, RES4Africa held a workshop titled “The internationalisation of the Italian renewables industry in promoting investment in Africa”. Held at Key Energy, the event aimed to showcase projects, experiences, perspectives and success stories of Italian and international players, to present Africa as a continent of opportunities and as a fertile environment for investment.
The workshop foresaw two complementary sessions: one centred on the Water-Energy-Food (WEF) Nexus as an integrated approach to renewable energy deployment, and one on financial instruments for de-risking renewable energy investment, with particular focus on renewAfrica.
The two sessions counted speakers and panellists from different sectors, such as the private sector, non-for-profit associations, international organisations and investment banks. This enabled an engaging discussion, with issues tackled from different point of views and approached with different perspectives. The common idea that emerged, from both sessions and from all speakers, is that Africa, now more than ever, must be considered as a land of opportunity. Innovative business models and de-risking mechanisms are key to unlock Africa’s potential.
Key Energy is a renewable energy expo that annually takes place in Rimini, Italy, and serves as a comprehensive showcase of technologies and services for the decarbonisation of the economy, now essential in light of the energy transition process launched with the Paris Agreement and made binding by European objectives.
